106: Interlude for Piano
Not a virtuoso piano work, but a very expressive and enjoyable piece, primarily lyrical with a bittersweet quality. Contains some rich harmonies.
103: Ann
A very simple and charming song-without-words; gentle and tender with a touch of wistfulness. Can also be played by flute with piano accompanying ( flute / harp arrangement available as #103A).
112: Narrative for Cello and Piano
Displays the cello’s capacity to portray a range of emotions and intensities with piano as a full partner. Episodic, with frequent shifts in mood and pace — variously lyrical, percussive, light-hearted and somber. Somewhat difficult. Three movements.
107: Intermezzo for Violin and Piano
Lyric, romantic violin music, traditional in style with modern harmonies.
116: Nostalgia ( for two pianos)
A medley (of sorts) of old familiar tunes – some complete, some just snatches, some juxtaposed or superimposed – arranged to give overall continuity and shape. Fun to play, very beautiful in spots, foot-tapping in others. Especially attractive to senior audiences
126: Suite for Solo Clarinet and Piano
A charming, rather whimsical work of three short movements, leading the clarinet through a variety of emotions before finally ending happily and exuberantly. An enjoyable musical experience.
110: Triloquy
Triloquy – a made-up word – a soliloquy for three. Traditional in its strong melodic and thematic orientation, but contains some non-traditional harmonies.
115: Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano
The composer finds this combination especially pleasing and believes it deserves more attention. This significant addition to the somewhat limited repertoire has been widely performed and enthusiastically received. Each instrument is given a prominent role. Three movements.
108: Little Quintet for Woodwinds and Strings
An uncomplicated, rather light piece for flute, clarinet, 2 violins and cello. Melodic, with a prominent theme and varied rhythms, ranging from a pulsing beat to a charming waltz.
111: Piano Septet
A mostly light-hearted, whimsical work with a slow, expressive middle section. Three short movements with some dissonance but with wonderful instrumental colors and interesting thematic and rhythmic treatments. Piano has a prominent part but as a member of the ensemble rather than as a solo instrument. Moderately difficult. A conductor may be helpful. See also catalog no. 121.
114: Movement for String Quartet
A blend of old and new, wistfulness and excitement, with a slow, dream-like coda. Unlike much classic string quartet music, each player is given a prominent role. Complete in itself, this 10-minute piece has proven useful in concerts where two major works do not quite fill out the program.
127: Lyric Quartet for Clarinet and Strings
Three movements containing many moods. Takes advantage of the clarinet’s special effectiveness in combinations with strings, where its wide range of pitch, dynamics and timbre enable it to submerge itself within the ensemble or assume a more prominent role, ranging in character from delicate to strident
121: Concertino for Chamber Orchestra with Piano
